Tasks
- Video Ethnography and Observations: Live video was used to observe live drill procedures and later on to document workflows, information transmission, and recording behaviors.
- Artifact Collection and Analysis: Documents such as triage tags in a classical mass casualty drill were collected. For us, this was used for competitive analysis in designing a hypothetical new interface.
- Taskflow and Communication Flow Analysis: After transcribing live video data, diagrams detailed the general types of information transmitted from one party of the drill to another party, and the direction with which they were communicated.
- Data Visualization: After gathering numbers from the videos and machines,Matlab and Excel comparative barcharts and graphs detail the efficiency of patients being transported to hospitals for both the classical and our new drill approach.

Project Overview
Short for Wireless Internet Information System for Medical Response in Disasters, I served on the ethnography and research team of Cal(IT)2 in observing live drill procedures of mass casualty events through video and follow up interviews. My main role was to draft workflows of disaster response, to gather data of our developing interface and compare it to more traditional drill methods, and to conduct usability tests on medical devices.
