Musical Biography

I was trained classically on the piano at the age of four studying with Joyce Rae, and then began training classically on the cello at age ten, studying with Roger Emmanuel and Dahna Rudin. Shortly thereafter in 1996, I joined the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra (PACO), where I played as associate cellist of the senior level of the orchestra. I joined a string quartet and as our name spread, we were hired for various private parties including playing for the Japanese Emperor at the San Francisco Japanese Embassy, and another playing for the private celebration held by Celera for the completion of the Human Genome Project. At age 15, in 1999, I joined the California Youth Symphony (CYS), where I was co-principal cellist in 2003 and toured in Switzerland,Germany, and France. In college, my interests gravitated towards studying jazz, primarily with the cello (whereupon, much to my delight, I discovered that strings were atypical in the jazz scene). Studying with Kamau Kenyatta, I began to be immersed in the jazz scene of San Diego, where I was priviledged to perform vocally and play on my cello in various bars, clubs, restaurants and private gigs for much of my college career.

The exposure to such a public scene in San Diego led me to be hired for many private recording gigs. Much of my projects now rest on collaborative projects with others, as much of my recent time have been focused more on my cognitive science studies. However, I'm always looking for new creative ideas and musical endeavors.
