Tasks

  • Ethnographic Observations: Onsite interviews were conducted from various hospital personnel, including those from the lab, radiology, nurses, and floor clerks. Follow up phone interviews and domain expert interviews took place to validate findings.
  • Work Flow Analysis: An in depth look at the inner workings of the various departments in the hospital, and understanding various steps involved with event generation and notification processes. The Pathology Lab, Radiology Lab, Microbiology Lab, Blood Bank, and ER were among some of those analyzed.
  • User Task Modeling: Examining the various roles within the hospital and understanding the specific tasks each role performs to reveal the ways these tasks overlap and intertwine.
  • Communication Modeling: Understanding the sequence of communication exchanges between various relevant roles during event generation processes. Outlining places where breakdowns occur and evaluating particular reasons why they do.
  • Storyboarding: Visualizing complex scenarios that occur during communication between hospital personnel and the role of asynchronous communication would play in it; presenting the storyboard to stakeholders for validation purposes.
